Crispin Beltran (January 7, 1933–May 21, 2008)

A Long Weekend in Passing

May 1- Labor day it is, I labored on washing the clothes and bedsheets, running errands like buying adult diapers and milk. Later in the afternoon, I took the groceries, packed some clothes and my new guitar to the bus station. Off to Zambales! Four hours later I am where the family is. At least I won’t be sleeping alone in a spooky house for the long weekend! Yeah!

May 2- Today I was absent from my truckload of office work to be in Zambales. A day of mostly non-events. This includes banter and chichat and playing badminton and practicing the guitar. Helped in taking care of my grandfather who is weak and is in constant need of intravenous feeding. I really really wish he’d be stronger. Prayers prayers prayers.

May 3- Another day of non-events. This includes buying bags of casuy for pasalubong and reading the newspaper. Lolo tried sitting on the wheelchair but got tired too soon.

May 4- Went to Subic with my sister to buy Lolo’s medication, get some groceries and withdraw money from one of the province’s very few ATMs (I think there’s only 6, with those in Olongapo included) only to back out because the line was so long it could take us 3 hours to wait for our turn (and then chances are, its out of money by then). After that we went to Lola Of The Other Side and I cooked some spaghetti sans the onion and beef, while we watched Harry Potter 5 on DVD. Tiring day.

May 5- Back to Manila. And the house is worse when we left it. T’was resolved that by next year, we should be out of the spooky house. Gotta save money.

May 6- Back to work and the work is more more than ever! Haaaaay!
